Welcome to the Otakingdom tumblr! Here you'll find news, previews, and discussions on the anime we love. We're a little different from other anime news blogs. Posted here is the news that sometimes gets looked over, or missed. Other sites want to show you idols, moe, and a billion new Shingeki no Kyojin promotional goods. We're here to provide the goodies you might miss, and then some! And also to promote the support of anime/manga as a whole, not just what's new and what's hot now. That's not to say we hate new anime of course. :P But we provide what you might not be getting elsewhere!

Consider being apart of our community. If you love older anime, or are just getting started being into anime, you are more than welcome here!

It was announced in the Jan 2014 issue of Kadokawa’s game and manga magazine COMPTIQ, that Record of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch story is getting a new manga series. Tomomasa Takuma (Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally, Code Geass: Renya of the Darkness, Kurogane Communication) is starting the series on December 10th.
This is most likely to celebrate Record of Loddoss War’s 25th anniversary, and that it is getting a blu-ray release very soon!

There’s only 3 days left to support Pastel Yumi and over $12,000 left to go. It’s time for another real talk here.
Pastel Yumi has never been translated into English. No official releases, and no fansubs either. Part of that might be the problem with funding it actually, because not that many people are familiar with it. The point is, because of that, it’s super important to fund it. This is the opportunity to be able to watch it in English. And if this set doesn’t get funded, we’re going to be left with half of the series unfinished online too.
I talked about funding leading to Magical Emi and Persia last time, but keep that in mind as well. If you don’t particularly care about Pastel Yumi on DVD, but still want to see classic magical girls, that’s what the smaller donations are for. Outside of magical girls, this is actually a great opportunity to just show some interest in shoujo which has always struggled in the US market. However, most of the successes for Anime Sols have been shoujo, which is amazing. We need to keep it up. So if you’re a fan of magical girls or shoujo, please pledge something. It will likely lead to more opportunities.
You can donate just $5, but $40 will get you the DVDs if you’re interested. Pledges only go up to $250, which is much lower than Creamy Mami, so we need more supporters at these smaller levels. I’d also like to make it incredibly clear, you will not be charged unless the goal is reached. So if you are interested and can afford it, there’s no risk.
Support Pastel Yumi and please continue to spread the word!

1 day and $6,000 to go!  C’mon shoujo anime fans!

BUBBLEGUM CRISIS ULTIMATE EDITION BLU-RAY KICKSTARTER
Only 3 days into it’s Kickstarter, the BGC Blu-ray has only 20,000 of it’s 75,000 goal left to go!  That’s amazing!
Fans who pledge a certain amount will have some say in how any bonuses will work, and what they’d like to see in the final product!
Remember also, this is Animeigo, a company responsible for many other amazing older anime titles (such as Urusei Yatsura and Kimagure Orange Road).  Let’s show them we are highly interested in those series as well!

Manga Reborn, a website that allows users to legally read manga digitally in English and in Japanese, launched a Kickstarter campaign in September to translate 10 manga titles into English and distribute them digitally through the website.   All the titles in this Kickstarter have never previously been published in English.

Manga Reborn currently hosts around 500 manga on its site, with 100 of those manga being available in English. Manga Reborn uses crowd-sourcing from its users to translate the manga on its site. The company notes that Kickstarter donations “will be used to find and recruit the best localization team, contact authors, license new manga, and turn this manga into digital content.”

Kickstarter is here, it has 6 days left to raise about $2,000 more to meet it’s goal: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1538280341/manga-reborn-10-great-manga-titles-released-in-eng?ref=live

This is an awesome project, I wish I had known about it sooner.  There is so much great manga out there, I wish this project success!

magicalgirlsofshoujo:

There is now just 1 week left to fund the second set of DVDs for Creamy Mami. And as of right now we are still over $11,000 away from the $18,000 goal.
Again, here’s how it works. You can donate as little as $5, but a $40 pledge will get you the preorder of the second set. In addition, you can add on the previous set to your order in case you missed it. There are other incentives in there as well for the Creamy Mami fan.
If this set fails, we won’t get any of the other sets and I believe the weekly episodes will stop being uploaded and eventually taken off the site. So even if you have no interest in the DVDs and just watch the streams, you still need to pledge. Or else no more official Creamy Mami at all.

Anime Sols has recently added A Time Slip of 10000 Years: Prime Rose to its streaming site. The three-episode special is part of a crowdfunding set that also includes Bremen 4 and Bagi, the Monster of Mighty Nature. Bremen 4 is currently streaming but Bagi has not been added to the site yet. The crowdfunding goal is set for US$16,000 by December 12th.

The 1983 fantasy anime follows a female warrior who is also the princess of a country named Guroman. Guroman is at war with the country of Kukurit. As a peacekeeping measure, each country exchanges their royal heirs: the princess Prime Rose and Kukurit’s prince. This is the story of how the princess came to be known as Emiya.

WOW, BIG NEWS!
Pacific Media Expo, has announced a very special guest of honor!  Mr. Izumi Matsumoto!
Izumi Matsumoto is the creator and artist of the popular manga series Kimagure Orange Road, which was originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump and later adapted into an anime.
During his career, Matsumoto was forced to take a hiatus from drawing because he began suffering from intense pain in his drawing arm. It took many years for Matsumoto to receive a proper diagnosis which led to effective treatment. The cause of his condition was a spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leak (SCSFLS) which stemmed from an injury he received from a traffic accident he had been involved in when he was three years old. Today, Matsumoto speaks about his condition with the hope that more people become aware of this debilitating disease. Matsumoto has future plans to raise awareness through his manga.
I hope KOR fans will show their support and greet him, listen to his story, and perhaps we can see about getting an English release of the manga, and a re-release of the anime.
PMX is on it’s 10th year, and will be held at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport November 8th through the 10th.

An absolutely fantastic Kickstarter project is being held right now to support a new Japanese pop-culture magazine, titled Akiba Art Anime Magazine.

The magazine, aims to satisfy your inner otaku, providing a plethora of beautiful anime illustrations from various artists, while also introducing you to the popular otaku culture of Japan!  Which includes, but is not limited to, cosplay, goods, and food!

OTAKU, in the Japanese language, means having a passion for specific hobbies, and most here in the U.S. know otaku simply as passionate anime fans.  Of course, otaku is even in our name for this blog!  So this is a definite must to be apart of!

The magazine will be about 60-70 pages, and in 100% full color! And of course, depending on the amount of pledges (which they’ve already managed to exceed well over their goal), they’ll increase the pages!

They’ll also have other cool goodies in the magazine, including pages you can wear 3-D glasses for, to enhance the artwork on the page!

You can find more information, and see for yourself what this Kickstarter is all about!

JH Lab explains their reasoning for this project:

We, at JH Lab, have spent years on our research, mastering the concepts driving Akihabara and otaku. We have been severely disappointed about how these concepts have been misunderstood by those residing in the United States. We have been looking for a new means of distributing real authenticity in Akiba culture, sharing it around the entire world. Thus bringing us to three main reasons this project has began.

Reason One: Sharing. We would like overseas otaku, mainly those of North America, to join this project and give us direct opinions. Reason Two: Finances. To create a top quality product, we need fellow comrades to back us up. And finally Reason Three: PR. We, in Akihabara, do not have have strong connections with overseas media. Therefore, we think it’d be meaningful to let you in on this project through this platform known as Kickstarter.

There’s still plenty of time if you are just hearing about this exciting magazine, the Kickstarter campaign will end on October 13th!
